The Deep South Beagle Gundog Association

approved a Scholarship Program at the June 6, 2009 summer meeting.

The Deep South will award two $500.00 scholarships. Plus Mr. George Pirman will match the scholarships up to $500.00.

So, the scholarship amount will be $750.00 total.

I want to encourage all Junior Handlers to participate in both the DEEP SOUTH junior hander program

and also MR. PIRMAN'S. It is very important to keep young people involved in our sport!!

Also, AKC has a junior hander program and it would be beneficial to submit your application to them also.

AKC has the same deadline date of February 20th.

The monies will be made payable to the school of the recipients choice.

The deadline for submission will be February 20th of each year.

JUNIOR BEAGLE HANDLER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

1. ACADEMICS: Academic achievement evidenced by grade point average, class rank, and SAT and/or ACTS scores.

2. ACTIVITIES: Member of a DSBGF club. Involvement with the raising of Beagle pups, field training of young Beagles, and AKC competition within the performance or conformation events for Beagles. Involvement in school clubs and/or sports, in church and/or community organizations, also showing depth in involvement, and leadership. Employment, showing time management and desire to help oneself.

3. INTEREST: Preference will be given to students who are planning a career in animal husbandry, veterinarian practice, wildlife management, wildlife conservation, and related fields.

4. ESSAY: Content and grammar.

5. NEED: Evidence of need of financial assistance.

6. STUDENT: Looking for well-rounded students who can help to insure that future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy the sports of hunting, the thrill of the hounds in bay, and the sport of Beagling.
